Clean rooms

Clean rooms are, according to EN ISO 14644-1, rooms that meet very stringent in-room specifications on air treatment and particulate pollution.

What are clean rooms for?

The main purpose of a Clean Room is to protect the tasks carried out inside it from external and internal pollutants that could affect the stages of the production process for which the room is intended.

This is why the air introduced into these rooms goes through multiple stages of increasingly efficient filtration according to the required classification, the room operating status and other endogenous factors.

The UNI EN ISO 14644-1 standard

This Standard regulates production in clean rooms and associated controlled environments and belongs to the broader UNI EN ISO 14644 standard which specifically concerns classification of areas. The standard defines cleanliness classes and the related expected particle pollution levels and replaces the previous Federal Standards 209D and 209E..

To prevent risk of particulate contamination from external or internal sources, control of the positive or negative pressure gradient of the rooms is a fundamental aspect of clean room maintenance;; together with the control of other parameters such as temperature, humidity, lighting levels, etc. these gradients define the overall characteristics of the work..
